New immigration form available for verifying worker eligibility
Use of the new I-9 form, bearing the revision date of Nov. 14, 2016, goes into effect Jan. 22. This form has been used since the mid-1980s, when Congress mandated employers verify all employees’ citizenship status before they could be authorized to work.
The new form contains enhancements to make it easier to use and “streamlines certification for certain foreign nationals.” More than one translator/preparer can be noted on the form, and extra space is available for supplemental information and notes.
The form can be downloaded at the CIS website.
