Beware of fraudulent email discussing HIPPA audits
On Monday, the OCR issued an advisory to dentists, doctors and other health workers across the country about a suspected phishing scam that looks like official communication from the Department of Health and Human Services.
What makes it especially harmful is that it even bears the signature of OCR Director Jocelyn Samuels and appears to be on the department's official letterhead. However, the email is fake, and asks readers to enroll in an audit program on a non-governmental website, according to the OCR’s release.
If you have questions about HIPPA audits, please contact the office directly at OSOCRAudit@hhs.gov. The Federal Trade Commission’s website also offers resources about phishing schemes – and how to avoid them.
As a further precaution, the ADA Center for Professional Success has anti-hacking advice available to members.
